Surplus funds recovery

The county may be holding money that belongs to you.

When a home sells at a tax sale or foreclosure auction for more than was owed, the extra money — the surplus — legally belongs to the former owner or their heirs. Meridian Surplus Partners finds it, files the claim, and gets it back to you at no upfront cost.

Meridian Surplus Partners — compass and house mark

A financial-services team built around one job: returning surplus proceeds to the people they belong to.

How it works

Four steps, and we do the heavy lifting

01

We locate the funds

We monitor county tax-sale and foreclosure records and identify surplus proceeds still sitting in the court or clerk's account under your name.

02

We build the claim

Deeds, heirship documents, identity verification, lien payoffs and the county's claim packet — assembled and filed correctly the first time.

03

We handle the process

We track the docket, answer county and court requests, and coordinate with counsel where a court order is required.

04

You get paid

Funds are disbursed to you. Our fee comes out of the recovery — never out of your pocket, and never before you're paid.

Why the clock matters

Most states set a hard claim deadline

Depending on the state and county, surplus proceeds must be claimed within roughly one to three years of the sale. Miss it and the money is typically escheated to the state or absorbed by the county — permanently. Counties are rarely required to track you down, so unclaimed balances sit quietly until the window closes.
